Amy has been a prolific artist since the age of six, creating her own books, writing and playing with crayons. She continued her interest in creative endeavors throughout high school, landing a spot in an advanced placement art school for her senior year. She focused on painting in oils and acrylics. She went on to the Visual Arts program at SUNY Purchase, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a concentration in printmaking. After school, she has had several forays in the corporate world, but always kept her own artistic interests. She wrote and illustrated an underground “zine”, and continued explorations in painting and collage.
One of her friends introduced her to the world of beads circa 1997. She immediately took to the new medium, and began creating jewelry and launched her own business, and a website.
Amy says: “I love creating jewelry that makes women feel beautiful and happy. I’m very interested in juxtaposing colors and shapes, and try to incorporate those studies into my designs. Although I read the fashion magazines faithfully, my pieces are more individual statements than strictly copying the trends. I hope to make my pieces wearable for the modern and stylish woman. I don’t make anything I would not wear myself. In fact, I wear most of my own pieces out on the streets of San Francisco, and receive a lot of compliments!”
Amy Oh! Designs has been in business since 1998, and sells to small boutique stores and galleries, as well as on her site.
She also remains an accomplished watercolor, acrylic and collage artist.
Her other interests include yoga, nutrition, Buddhism, poetry and cooking. She resides with her husband and two cats, in a loft in the SOMA (South of Market) area of San Francisco.
